They came to live with us as their owner was unfortunately allergic to them, now you may think "but they have no hair!", but most allergies are actually caused from the saliva of the animal. So even though their previous owners had tried different types of bedding and hay, unfortunately nothing helped alleviate her symptoms.
I have never owned skinny pigs before, but there are many knowledgable owners on Facebook groups that were there to help if I had a question to ask. One of my first questions was "Is it just me, or are skinny pigs louder, greedier and messier than the hairy guinea pigs?" Well, to this question, the majority of replies were "Yes!"
These little hot potatoes can eat at one hundred miles an hour (slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean). They will squeak very loudly until you feed them exactly what they would like and they put food and water and poops everywhere.
Having said that, they are extremely cute, but are still getting to know us. They are happy to come up to us but being picked up is a whole other matter. They really don't like it, so we go gently and slowly, talking to them all the time. I do get a scratch or two though but am sure they will soon be happy with us picking them up, it sometimes just takes a bit of time.
So that's my introduction to our latest residents at Willow Grove. Next week I shall introduce you to Wynter, the Mosaic Chinchilla, who we adopted a few months ago.
Take care.
