So even though we clean our animals every day, some still make quite a mess of their enclosure. The ferplast cages have a grid patterned bottom which allows mess to stick in between the pattern and stick on like glue.

Here is a step by step guide on how to remove that mess and dirt.

Step 1

Brush as much excess dirt from the base as possible.

Step 2

Line the bottom of the cage with paper tissue ie kitchen roll.

Step 3

Cover with enough white vinegar to thoroughly soak the paper and ensure the whole base is covered.

Step 4

Leave for 24 hours at least

Drain off the excess white vinegar, and keep to use again on your litter trays etc.

ree

Step 5

Remove the tissue and discard.

ree

Step 6

Use a brush or a dish pad to scrub the base and loosen the dirt.

ree

Step 7

Thoroughly rinse with clean water and leave to dry.

Repeat if necessary if not all has been removed.

The reason this works is animals urine contains calcium which dries and sticks, the acid in the vinegar eats away at the calcium enabling it to be removed.

Enclosures look like new again, all I need to do now is find a way of making the bars look like new after they have been chewing on them! Lol 😂
