Animals get hot and can easily overheat in warmer weather.
Here are some tips for keeping your animals cool in the upcoming hot weather.
If you can place cages in a cool room or in the shade.
Frozen bottles of water can be used in guinea pig and rabbit cages to help keep them cool.
You can buy a disk that you freeze also for the purpose of placing in cages or hutches.
If using a run in the garden have a shaded area so your animals can get out of direct sunlight.
Replace water regularly so it doesn’t get warm.
Flies can cause a danger at this time of year so regular cleaning is essential, both guinea pigs and rabbits can suffer from fly strike.
If animals are outside use an open ended bed or hide to allow air to travel through, avoid plastic and metal housing in hot weather.
Using a parasol over the top of enclosures and hutches can also reduce the amount of heat into the hutch.
I hope these tips will help you to keep your animals safe and well over the coming weeks of warm weather.
